Vascular access is a critical skill that is used to deliver fluid, fluid boluses and medications to compromised patients. Vascular access via peripheral cannulation or the Intraosseous route are common place in emergency services across the world. Umbilical vein cannulation is still considered an excellent option to gain vascular access in the neonatal patient. This is especially true where services do not have access to IO devices when peripheral access fails or is impractical.
